This Credit Control and Debt Recovery course is a fully comprehensive course that will provide the delegates with a well-rounded approach to this vital role in business management, no prior knowledge is required.

This one-day course is designed for people who wish to gain an understanding of principles and practice of controlling credit and managing debt in commercial organisations. Delegates will identify the key issues affecting credit control, how to avoid common mistakes and what to do to recover stubborn debt.

The first half day session of the workshop covers why cash is vital to business survival and how credit controllers can improve their collection skills.

Topics covered in the first session include:

  • How money makes the world go round
  • How the order-to-cash process works
  • Who can make the credit control process difficult or impossible
  • How to interpret credit reports
  • Why trading with a customer is like a courtship process
  • How to measure the effectiveness of the Credit Control function
  • Scams that catch out the unwary
  • The warning signs to look for
  • What to do when things go wrong

In the second session, delegates can discuss their company credit control processes, learn best practice from the presenter and other delegates, review specific debtors and formulate a plan of action.

Session Two will cover:

  • Review of delegate’s business processes
  • How to improve the processes to improve the ability to collect cash
  • What action to take on key debtors (using delegates’ own aged debtor reports)
  • Establish an effective credit control cycle

As a result of attending this workshop, delegates will:

  • Understand who should be involved in credit control
  • How to minimise the risk of bad debts
  • How to structure an effective credit control plan

The workshop will be run by Ian Ross, a Chartered Management Accountant, with the ability to find the fun in the fundamentals of the subject. He has been interim Credit Manager within a plc responsible for 2000+ accounts, reduced the DSO for a major manufacturing division by 7, and collected several £ thousands for a charity.

Ian has delivered training courses in the UK and the Middle East with many practical examples and exercises to bring dull financial concepts to life.
