First Aid at Work level 3 Training course is designed for high-risk, high-volume work environments and gives an increased knowledge and understanding of First Aid Standards and regulations in the workplace, to be able to carry out their role as the Nominated First aid in the workplace. This course continues on from the Level 3 1-day course usually offered a couple weeks prior to this date whereby delegates return for days 2 and 3 to achieve Level 3 qualification status.

The Programme covers:

  • Cross infection
  • Use of basic equipment
  • Reporting and recording
  • Incident management
  • How to deal with life threatening conditions as with non-breathing adult casualty and an unconscious casualty who is suffering from a seizure.
  • How to recognise and treat a casualty who is bleeding and /or in shock.
  • How to effective deal with a choking casualty and minor illness and injuries in the students’ workplace.

This course also covers major conditions such as heart attack, anaphylaxis, asthma, and cardiac arrest.

Aims:
Students will be aware of and be able to carry out their role as First Aider in their workplace

Objectives:
On completion of training, all successful students will be able to:

  • Explain their understanding of the role of the first aider including reference to the use of available equipment and the need for recording incidences and actions in line with employers’ policy and procedures
  • Explain the importance of basic hygiene in first aid procedures
  • Demonstrate how to administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who is unconscious and/or in a seizure
  • Demonstrate effective casualty care/management/ movement
  • Demonstrate how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), promptly and effectively on an adult casualty and the correct application of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
  • Demonstrate how to administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and/or in shock. (including bleeding internally)
  • Demonstrate how to administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who is choking
  • Demonstrate safely, promptly and effectively appropriate first aid treatment for a casualty who has injured their bones/Skelton
  • Demonstrate how to administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who has had a bang or injury to their head
  • Demonstrate how to administer /provide safe, prompt and effective first aid treatment for a casualty who is suffering from minor injuries in the workplace
  • Demonstrate first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who is suffering an Anaphylactic shock or a casualty who is having an Asthma Attack
  • Demonstrate how to administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who has breathing problems
  • Demonstrate first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who is suffering from smoke and fuse inhalation
  • Demonstrate safely, promptly and effectively appropriate first aid treatment for a casualty who has been crushed
  • Demonstrate how to administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who is suffering Abdominal pain, or has an abdominal wound
  • Demonstrate the action to be taken in order to act safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who has been involved in a poisoning incident
  • Demonstrate safely, promptly and effectively appropriate first aid treatment for a casualty who has burn or scald
  • Demonstrate how to administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who is suffering from low blood sugar
  • Demonstrate how to administer First aid safety and effectively to a casualty with an eye injury
  • Demonstrate how to administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who has Heart Problems
  • To successfully past the FAW assessment process in a safe, Prompt & effective manner

Assessment
Trainers will use continuous assessment to evaluate candidates to determine a student’s ability to act safely, promptly and effectively when an emergency occurs at work and/or have to deal with a casualty. There is a multiple choice question paper which all delegates must complete at the end of day 1 and 3.

This course is delivered in line with Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 and training is delivered in accordance with currently accepted first aid practices and is approved and regulated by FAIB.

This course is accredited by FAIB but can be accredited by Qualsafe awards for a small extra fee depending on your needs. Please let us know if you want it to be accredited by Qualsafe when booking.
