More than 400 young people gained information about life in the workplace as part of a national drive to help them with future employment.
The 14 to 24-year-olds attended the latest ‘Your Future Career’ event held by the Young Chamber of Commerce at Preston’s College, one of the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce’s patron members.
More than 40 companies exhibited at the event, including Chamber centenary patron, RBS, as well as Ultimaker, another of the Chamber’s patron members.
Also there were the likes of Virgin Trains, Blackburn Rovers, Hays, Premier Inn, Cuadrilla, OBAS UK and Lancashire County Council.
As well as hearing from those companies, those in attendance could also visit workshops on CV writing, interview techniques and the local area’s growing industries.
“We said that we wanted to deliver an event which would inspire people to not only make the most of their education but also think about possible future career paths,” said Hayley Topselvi, the Young Chamber co-ordinator.
“I hope the students who attended all went away better informed about the choices which are open to them when it comes to their employment options.
“The feedback we have received so far from exhibitors has been incredibly positive, both in terms of the number of people they spoke to and the level of interest they displayed in what was said.
“I’d like to thank all of the companies who took the time out of their busy schedules to pass on advice to our next generation of workers as well as Preston’s College for being excellent hosts.”
The event took place during National Apprenticeship Week, when Chambers of Commerce across the country are raising awareness of the career options available to young people.
The scheme works with local businesses to help bridge the gap between the worlds of education and work, to highlight the options available to students, as well as the skills needed to enter the workplace.
“We were delighted to be able to work alongside the Young Chamber by staging this popular event,” said Andrew Richardson, Head of Recruitment, at Preston’s College.
“Preston’s College works hard to ensure its learners are the most employable by providing them with the skills, knowledge and qualifications that industry require. As such, events like this help to highlight the range of apprenticeship and career opportunities available in the local area.”
