This course explores the ways in which you can maximise the benefit of attending and exhibiting at overseas trade shows. How do you decide which trade shows to attend and which markets to target? How can pre-event market research and engagement facilitate a successful trip? We will explore the steps you can take to increase awareness of your product and of your industry knowledge of the target market. Cultural awareness is vital when trading overseas and even more so when visiting the territory. We will look at common pitfalls to avoid and tips to make a good impression.

Consider what you will take with you to the exhibition and how you will get it there. Samples and equipment, fact sheets and brochures (potentially in multiple languages), giveaways and of course the exhibition stand itself. Stand size and design, location in the exhibition hall and whether to partner with an agent or distributor are all factors to consider. Once back in the UK, we will look at ways you can maximise your ROI with effective follow-up.

ATA Carnets are a useful means of taking goods and professional equipment overseas temporarily for exhibitions, trade shows, customer visits and installations. This course will enable you to decide whether a carnet is appropriate for your trip and understand what can and cannot be included on a carnet. We will provide guidance on the application process via eCarnet and we will explain the practicalities of driving or flying overseas with goods on an ATA Carnet. How does the person travelling with the goods actually use the carnet? We will cover both the traditional multi-page paper carnet and the new Digital Carnet App, introduced in 2026.
