The BCC has welcomed the government’s recommitment to HS2, highlighting its critical role in building a modern transport network that supports business growth, investment, and job creation across the UK.
For members, this is about confidence and connectivity. Reliable, high-capacity rail links are essential for moving people and goods efficiently, particularly across regional economies. HS2 also creates significant opportunities through its supply chain, with SMEs set to benefit from contracts and long-term infrastructure investment.
However, we believe that uncertainty around delivery and costs is holding back business planning and investment decisions. Delays or scaling back could weaken regional growth and limit the full economic benefits, especially when wider connectivity projects like Northern Powerhouse Rail are also critical to unlocking growth in the North.
We are encouraging Members especially SMEs, to explore supply chain opportunities linked to HS2. Continue feeding back how transport infrastructure impacts investment and growth, so we can reinforce the case for keeping major projects on track and delivering the connectivity businesses need.
