Broadband users in the Fishwick and Frenchwood area of Preston will finally be able to access some of the fastest internet services available thanks to CityFibre.

The UK’s largest independent full fibre platform has now completed its full fibre network rollout in the area and homes have been designated ‘ready for service.’ This means residents can now choose to connect to the fastest and most reliable internet services in the UK as they go live in their area. In Preston, Gigabit-capable services are currently available from Air Broadband, with other providers expected to join the network soon.

The completion of Fishwick and Frenchwood marks another milestone in CityFibre’s £30m project, which aims to future-proof Preston by ensuring its digital infrastructure is able to support residents’, businesses’ and services’ growing data consumption in an increasingly online world.

Preston homes in areas of Ribbleton have also been made ready for service, with work underway in the St. Matthews and City Centre wards. Once the entire build has been completed, almost every home and business will have access to full fibre broadband.

Speaking of this latest milestone, Steve Thorpe, CityFibre’s City Manager for Preston said: “We are really pleased to be offering people in Preston all the benefits full fibre connectivity has to offer, and we would like to thank the residents in the area who have been extremely patient with us as we have built our infrastructure. We now look forward to expanding our horizons and offering more people in the area the opportunity to connect to our network, unlocking unbeatable homeworking, home learning and digital entertainment experiences.”

Unlike many of the copper-based ‘fibre broadband’ services available today, full fibre networks use 100% fibre optic cables to carry data at light speed all the way from the home to the point of connection. This gives users consistently faster speeds for upload and download (up to 1,000 Mbps), near limitless bandwidth and connectivity users can depend on.

A full fibre connection also goes far beyond simply enabling access to the latest entertainment at lightning speed. As an essential digital utility, full fibre boosts households and businesses alike, with experts saying it will drive a range of economic benefits, such as making us more productive and innovative.

Residents interested in giving their home broadband a boost can find out more about the build and register their interest here.

Telent is delivering the construction programme on CityFibre’s behalf with a workforce that has been recruited locally. CityFibre’s aim is for the build to be substantially completed by 2024.
