The Government is seeking views on how legislation underpinning HMRC’s administration of the tax system could be updated to provide a better experience for individuals and businesses, enable opportunities to further reduce the tax gap, and help build greater resilience and responsiveness to future crises.
We would like to hear what you think about the proposed reforms.
This is part of a ten-year strategy to make sure tax administration keeps up with rapid social, economic and technological change to deliver the flexible,
resilient and responsive tax system the UK will need.
Some examples of these reforms are:

  • the extension of Making Tax Digital;
  • improving use of real-time information;
  • the timely payment of tax;
  • delivering a secure and easily accessible single digital account/customer record;
  • improving services for agents and representatives.

The objectives for the framework are:

  • providing certainty and appropriate safeguards for taxpayers;
  • flexible enough to adapt to changing circumstances and enable targeted support for taxpayers;
  • support HMRC’s aim to make it easy to get tax right and hard to get it
    wrong;
  • help build trust in a tax system that is recognised as fair and even-handed;
  • be as simple and transparent as possible;
  • help reduce the cost for taxpayers of meeting their obligations and drive down the costs to the Exchequer.

Have your say

HMRC want to hear opinions on what reforms they should focus on and whether these are the right objectives for the tax framework.
