A Preston-based food firm hopes to cook up goodwill by committing to an initiative aimed at serving fresh food and using ethically sourced ingredients.
Clegg’s Chilled Food Service, which operates out of Longridge, has signed up to the Food for Life Catering Mark Supplier Scheme.
This shows the company’s commitment to helping their catering clients provide meals which are freshly prepared, free from undesirable additives and better for animal welfare.
“We are very pleased and excited to have joined the Catering Mark Scheme,” said Paul Masterson from Cleggs.
“We are now looking forward to not only increasing our sales but helping caterers achieve Food for Life Catering Awards.
“We already supply a number of Contract Caterers, Universities, Colleges, Schools and Hospitals who hold a Food for Life Award and we hope that by being accredited with the Soil Association will help us supply more caterers who hold the Food for Life award or caterers who are looking to achieve it.
“Whilst increasing our sales we will also look to use even more local suppliers who need companies like ourselves to deliver products to caterers across the North of England.”
The Catering Mark Supplier Scheme, launched by the Soil Association in December 2012, brings together food producers, ingredient suppliers, wholesalers and distributors.
Caterers achieve the Food for Life Catering Mark, an independent endorsement that they are taking steps to improve the food they serve.
The Supplier Scheme is supporting this work by helping suppliers understand the Catering Mark and provide their caterers with the products and support they need.
