The Future of Local Government Reorganisation in Lancashire: In Partnership with Brabners and Fox Group
The future shape of local government in Lancashire is at a critical crossroads — and the business community has a vital role to play in what happens next.
This special event, hosted by the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce and chaired by BBC broadcaster Mike Stevens, comes at a pivotal time. With Lancashire County Council now under new political leadership following the recent local elections, discussions around Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) have taken on new urgency. The decisions made in the coming months will have long-term implications for businesses across the county.
The Chamber is firmly committed to ensuring that any restructuring of local government reflects not only the needs of our communities, but also the priorities of Lancashire’s business sector. Right now, there is a lack of clarity around the governance models being considered. Proposed options range from creating a single unitary authority covering all of Lancashire, to splitting the county into as many as five separate unitary authorities.
Each model carries different implications for economic development, infrastructure investment, public service delivery, and strategic planning.
This event will cut through the noise. The Chamber will provide a concise overview of each proposed model, outlining potential benefits and drawbacks. This will be followed by panel debate featuring representatives from district councils, unitary authorities, and the county council, each sharing their perspective on how Lancashire should be governed moving forward.
This is a must-attend event for business leaders in the county’s future prosperity. It’s your chance to gain valuable insight, ask key questions, and understand the real impact of LGR on the business environment.
