Cub scouts and volunteers from across the region joined together to mark the beginning of the movement’s 100th birthday.
It began last weekend with the ‘Wildest Beach Party Ever’ at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, attended by almost 8,000 cub scouts from across the UK.
The day saw the cubs, including those from West Lancs Scouts, have exclusive use of the Pleasure Beach, riding their favourite attractions as many times as they liked.
That was followed by the youngsters all joining together for an attempt at making the Guinness Book of World Records for the most number of people singing ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It.’
Among those present to ensure the cubs had a great day out was a volunteer, Jon Nutten, from Cotton Court.
He said: “It was an absolutely fantastic event! As someone who holds a couple of flexible volunteering roles with West Lancs Scouts and The Scout Association, seeing young people enjoying ‪fun, friendship and ‪‎adventure while celebrating is a real bonus.”
Chief Scout, Bear Grylls, added: “This will be one of the biggest celebrations that Scouting will see this year. I am so proud of all the Cub Scouts and all of the volunteers who give them so much fun, challenge and life changing adventure every week.”
The Scout Association hopes the ‘Cubs 100’ movement will help to increase the number of adult volunteers by raising the profile and understanding of the impact of cub scouts today, including how the movement helps to build and develop a young person’s character, resilience, leadership and responsibility.
