The North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce is delighted to sponsor this year’s Armed Forces Day in Preston as part of its centenary celebrations in 2016.
Taking place at the Flag Market on Saturday, June 25, the event – which is now the biggest in Lancashire – celebrates the city’s serving soldiers, veterans, their families and the city’s connection with the armed forces.
Running from 10am-4pm, the day, put together by Cllr Drew Gale, the city’s Armed Forces Champion, also sees Preston Business Improvement District (BID) stage its ‘Familyfest’ event.
“It’s an honour and a privilege for us to be involved with Armed Forces Day in any way that we can,” said Babs Murphy, chief executive of the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce.
“The Chamber has a long history of association with the Armed Forces so, particularly during our centenary year, it is only apt to provide this level of support.
“The Armed Forces have always done a vital job in protecting our country and continue to do so.
“It’s only right that we offer our gratitude to them for everything they do on our behalf without forgetting, of course, the incredible support they receive from their families.”
The celebrations begin with a service from the Cenotaph, reflecting and recognising the work the armed forces carry out.
There will also be a series of family-friendly events headed by Familyfest (1pm-4pm), details of which will be announced next week.
“Armed Forces Day is always a chance for everyone to join together in showing our appreciation for what they do in a family-friendly atmosphere,” said Cllr Gale.
“I believe this year’s celebration will carry on that tradition and I’d like to thank the Chamber and Preston BID for their support in helping us to stage this worthy event.”
Preston BID manager, Mark Whittle, added: “It’s a privilege for us to be associated with an event like this which showcases everything that’s good about our city and country.
“I’m sure that everyone will work well together to stage an unforgettable day and provide a warm welcome for everyone who visits Preston.”
