Practical training for real-world trade careers

Whether you’re looking to progress in your current role, change career direction, or return to work, the Skills Bootcamp in International Trade provides the knowledge, confidence, and qualifications to open new doors.

Learners benefit from a structured, supportive programme that combines expert teaching with practical, job-ready skills aligned to employer demand.

What you’ll gain from the programme

This dedicated training programme will help you:

  • Develop the skills needed to work in import and export roles
  • Build confidence in international trade processes and compliance
  • Gain a nationally recognised BCC Foundation Award in International Trade

Training is delivered through weekly sessions with experienced tutors, supported by guided learning and practical insights.

What you will learn

During the bootcamp, you’ll cover key international trade topics, including:

  • Understanding exports and export growth
  • Export documentation
  • Import procedures and customs regimes
  • Customs compliance and declarations (including CDS)
  • Incoterms
  • Commodity codes
  • Rules of origin (preference and non-preference)
  • Methods of payment

This comprehensive curriculum ensures learners gain a strong foundation across the full import and export process.

 

Programme structure & time commitment

  • Duration: 10 weeks
  • Guided learning: 60 hours
  • Format: Weekly in-person sessions with expert tutors

Learners will need to commit time to attend sessions and complete guided learning activities alongside the programme.

Valued at £3000 and funded predominantly by UK Government, there is a nominal employer contribution of £300 for SMEs (£900 for larger companies), offering great value upskilling for your employees. There is no cost to the learner.

Who can apply?

You can apply to join the Skills Bootcamp if you:

  • Are aged 19 or over
  • Live or work in Lancashire
  • Are employed, self-employed, recently unemployed, or returning to work after a break
