New for 2025, as part of the HR Forum in association with Harrison Drury, we will be running informal Peer 2 Peer catch ups between each HR Forum, giving members the opportunity to meet up on a more informal basis to share ideas and experiences and build your network.
We plan to include a brief Employment Rights Bill update in each HR Forum/Peer 2 Peer catch up so that you are fully up to speed on what is happening, but beyond that we will seek your views at the next HR Forum as to the format/content you would like to see.
Making GDPR Relevant: Dispelling Those Data Protection Myths
This talk will dispel five common data protection and UK GDPR myths for business owners. Delivered by Chris Burn, a certified Data Protection Officer, and Managing Director of CSRB Limited. CSRB are a full-service data privacy and GDPR practice, supporting businesses all over the UK and as far afield as the USA, Pakistan, South Africa, and Singapore. The talk will introduce delegates to the seven UK GDPR data processing principles, the eight data subject rights, highlight what responsibilities we have as data controllers (e.g. direct marketing consents, subject access request response, information security), whilst introducing the first new piece of data privacy legislation since 2018 – The Data (Use and Access) Act (DUAA 2025). There will be a number of practical takeaways from the talk and the opportunity to ask questions. Chris has also forewarned us that he will involve all delegates in a data privacy activity, in order to make GDPR interactive and fun!

HR Forum in partnership with Harrison Drury’s employment law and HR specialists
Not a member of the HR Forum?
HR Forum is a group for anyone who has responsibility for people in their organisation. No matter the industry or what point you are at in your career, you will understand the unique challenges that arise when you have responsibility for people, both legally and literally.
HR Forum is arranged by the Chamber and hosted by Katy Parkinson (a Legal Director) and Helen Russell (a HR Consultant), both part of Harrison Drury’s Employment team.
At each quarterly morning briefing session, Katy and Helen will provide an update on legal developments and host a topical discussion. The Forum is designed to provide a safe space for people to openly discuss challenges they are facing, and to share stories and ideas with others who may have encountered similar situations. Between them, Helen and Katy have over 35 years’ legal and HR experience, and cumulatively around the table there is a wealth of knowledge and experience to tap into. Chatham House rules apply, and this has allowed for many honest and fascinating debates over the last 12 months!
Recognising that often the best ideas come out of a free-flowing conversation, the team have recently introduced more informal Peer to Peer sessions. These will take place in between the quarterly briefings and, over the course of a couple of hours in the early evening, will enable us all to mix and share best practice as well as tips on what to avoid.
