Workforce Changes
There will be a legal update at the beginning of each HR Forum given the passage of the Employment Rights Bill through the House of Lords and beyond that receiving Royal Assent.
The Government has now published its roadmap for implementation of the Employment Rights Bill which pushes the implementation of some changes back to 2027, including day 1 unfair dismissal rights and enhanced rights for zero hours workers.
Lots of new rights will come in before then though, starting from when the Bill receives Royal Assent (which is looking increasingly unlikely to happen before Parliament’s summer recess), then in April and October 2026 before the final changes taken effect in 2027.
Government consultations will run from the summer into the latter part of this year and on into 2026 too on a variety of the new rights that are coming in.
In July, we will also look at what you might do to implement changes to terms and conditions now, and hear from members who have had experience of implementing workforce changes.
Looking ahead to October, we will focus the discussion on absence management and tools to help with it such as absence management approaches, Bradford Factor calculations and the role of Occupational Health.
New for 2025, we will be running informal Peer 2 Peer catch ups between each HR Forum, giving members the opportunity to meet up on a more informal basis to share ideas and experiences and build their network. We have set the following dates for these sessions, but we will be guided by members as to preferred times and locations, as well as the format/content of the sessions. We plan to include a brief Employment Rights Bill update in each HR Forum/Peer 2 Peer catch up so that you are fully up to speed on what is happening, but beyond that we will seek your views at the next HR Forum as to the format/content you would like to see.
