Essentials of Data Protection for Business

May 11, 2018 from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm

Course Overview:
It is vital that those who collect and use personal data of clients and colleagues, maintain the confidence of those who are asked to provide it. Not only data stored on a computer e.g. names, addresses, emails, and telephone numbers but also data stored in other forms. There are expectations of businesses to protect this data and legal consequences if they do not.

This course will provide you and your workers with a general overview of the Data Protection Act (DPA) of 1998 and its implications in the workplace and will offer a look into the new GDPR which will replace it in May 2018. It will give you a foundational best-practice approach in securing the data of your clients and remaining compliant with existing and future law.

Outcomes & Objectives:

  • Overview & purpose of the Data Protection Act 1998
  • Typical application examples of the eight principles of the act
  • Be able to describe what these principles mean to you in your role
  • Various types of data handling – across common sectors
  • Understand how data protection matters are enforced and what is done when data breaches occur
  • Overview of the differences between DPA and GDPR.

Data Protection for Business: The Essentials provides delegates with solid best-practice approaches to protecting client data. Learn what regulations are in practice today via the DPA 1998 agreement while gaining strategies, real-world examples of benefits to protecting your clients’ data and the consequences if you don’t.

We will also have a closing module to compare current regulation with the all new and exciting GDPR which is coming to a business near you, next year.

Dan Milne and Bethany Paliga, of Forbes Solicitors, presented an extremely informative seminar for a packed house of 65 Chamber delegates back in September and have generously offered to present this open course for us in a much smaller setting that will allow for more direct Q&A and One-to-Ones.

We have room for just 12 delegates on this course so please book early to avoid disappointment (the September session for 65 sold out completely).
