Doing Business In … Egypt
November 12, 9:00 am - 10:30 am
The final event for 2020 in our Doing Business in… series takes us to the exciting and dynamic market of Egypt.
Egypt’s fast-growing, young population of over 100 million, diverse and expanding economy, and its strategic location linking the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Asia make it an ideal global business hub. At close to 30 million, Egypt’s talented labour pool is the largest in the region.
The new bilateral trade agreement between the UK and Egypt – which will replace the EU agreement following Brexit – is in its final stage of negotiations.
Since 2014, significant improvements were made to Egypt’s economy via an IMF-supported economic reform package which resulted in a 28% growth in trade volume (goods) with the UK by 2019, when the programme concluded successfully. Coincidentally, the country was also named one of the fastest growing economies in 2019 and GDP growth is expected to remain positive in 2020/21 despite the effects of Covid-19 on the global economy.
Egypt’s government is still actively working on ways to continuously improve private sector involvement. Major infrastructure projects such as new cities, public transport networks, retail and renewable energy projects, as well as a focus on the upgrade of social services such as healthcare and education means that there are major opportunities for UK companies in a variety of sectors.
Our speaker will be Iman Elsherif the Secretary General of the Egyptian British Chamber of Commerce. Prior to this. she worked as a Business Relationship Manager for several international companies including Infracon and Shimco International.
Iman worked as a Business Development Manager at the Medical Office of the Egyptian Embassy in London in which she used British expertise to lead collaboration programs in the medical field to improve medical services in Egypt (such as nursing, ambulance, GP surgeries, etc.).
Join our session to explore what Egypt has to offer for UK businesses.
After the presentation we will have a Q&A session. Please submit any questions you may have for our speakers in advance to email@example.com
